Bew the Ambulance

Hi all, I finally got a membership card, so here is the reason why i'm here....
'Bew', Hanlon built, 3 prev owners - Cambridgeshire Ambulance Service, St Johns, then a game farm where it was used to cart around the beaters.
Still very much original, no one has messed about with it.
We're slowly converting it over the next 2 years (ish), maybe taking it out this summer if we can get the basics in.
The first picture is one i found on t'net by typing in the registration plate on google!
The second is my friends L reg CF ambulance/camper that i will be using for a couple of interior bits.
the rest of the pictures and subsequent posts will be the progress from grubby gun bus to slightly less grubby camper!

nice! i thought about painting it army green, but sticking to a nice purple stripe instead of the reflective strip.
could you share a photo of the inside? i have an idea what i want to do, but it's always good to see the same vehicle converted by someone else

Hi, can i join your Ambulance club?
I've seen yours while having a good google too
looks very unmolested, nice one!
They're not breaking poor blue are they?
We were looking at buying that when it was first up
for sale but couldn't afford it, we later met them at
a festival, such a shame it hasn't worked out, sigh.

I'm liking the green too & hoping i'll see it in passing when it comes
down our way to chi', the cycle carrier is very interesting,
i like it, but then you can't open your doors right up?

well, here's mine, not had a chance to clean it up yet
as i've been busy trying to get it running, finally found
the dipstick & discovered over 3litres too much oil in there
so guessing the previous owner didn't EVER find the dipstick,
now she's drained she's a runner, phew! (please no lasting damage)

(please excuse the mess, we're getting ready to sell up & move into our new 'house'..)

Looking forward to seeing your progress, have fun!

hi 'st john'!
love your ambi and of course the lovely purple truck!
the blue one is a complete mess in some areas, the wiring is really shoddy, all the window seals need replacing and the engine wasn't put back together properly. probably lucky you didn't buy it!!

This is the only picture I have of the inside.

It very much under construction but we have had some great hols in it over the last 3 years. We have a list on the go and anything that annoys us or we think would be a good idea we put it down. Just recently we put box underneath (opposite side to the petrol tank) which is accessed through a hatch on the side of the van. This is made of ply and fibreglass and is great for storing the jack, power leads, levelling ramps and other bits and pieces. We also fitted a gas outlet to the back to run our Cadac (gas cooker/bar-b-q kind of thing)as before it was really a pain to take out the cylinder out. Now we can operate the Cadac and the 2 ring cooker inside (one to cook the spuds and the other to boil the kettle for tea).
My daughter sleeps up front and essentially has her own bedroom once the door is slid across.
The table legs screw off and we open out another table and put out the matress that is against the window as well as the one that is on the bench, which makes a very comfortable double bed.
Cycle carrier lets the doors open fully to allow the step down but when we park up for any length of time they are usually the first things to come off anyway.
Another thing I did is removed all the flouresent tubes and replaced with LEDs to use less power.
