noise from ? accelerator

Hi

I have a Hymer on a Fiat ducato base/engine. There is an intermittant squeel noise when changung gear,it feels like its coming from the accelerator pedal and not the clutch. Does anyone know what it could be, it seemed to happen when the roads were wet.

First guess: slack fan belt.

Hi Phil

That sounds suspect, no over heating though. Might be difficult to acertain as you can't see the fan belt from the engine bay.

Depending on which engine you have in your Ducato then you will have either a v belt or a multi v belt driving the alternator and power steering pump.

The water pump is cam-belt driven so even if fan-belt snaps she wont overheat.

You will also have a second v belt driving the servo pump at the other end of the engine.

Is the squeal just as your letting the clutch out or as you put your foot down to accelerate

The drivers wheel inner arch should have a plastic liner which stops water getting on to the belt though.

Hi Gethin

It seems to be when I press the accelerator pedal to take up the drive, just after depressing clutch to change gear. Have just found the the power steering fluid level is low too.
The engine is 2.5 TD.

I'd follow Phil's advice first and check the belts for tightness
