What is this, Please

I have a Bedford CF (facelift) A reg. this is by the inner nearside wing, as you can see from the picture it is wired into the wiring harness; there is a cable on it that goes to the carburettor throttle linkage but is not connected. as it's an automatic I thought it might be the kickdown cable but with further inspection I have realised that it's linked to the accelerator pedal. so I'm wondering if any one knows what it is and should I reconnect it to carb, van seems to run ok without it.
Thank you
Richard

What is this.

Hi,

I think these bits are left over from a one time automatic gearbox, which has been replaced.

Doug.

Kick-down on the CF automatic gearbox should be cable only: cable should run from the accelerator pedal to the kick-down plunger in the gearbox & has an adjuster where it passes under the toe panel.

Alternatives of vacuum- or electrically-operated kick-down (that your van seems to have fitted) normally are found only on car models.

Look along the front and back edges of the gearbox just above the line of the oil pan gasket flange for the kick-down solenoid or cable entry; can be on the front or rear edge according to gearbox series/type.

If a solenoid is fitted then you'll have to re-instate the kick-down switch (the gubbins in your top photo); if there's a cable kick-down then leave the electrical stuff alone.

Either way correct adjustment is essential for proper kick-down operation.

Thank you Philbradshaw. there is a separate cable connected to the accelerator pedal and box.

The kickdown cable runs directly to the gearbox, it doesn't run anywhere near the carb.
The unattached cable shown in 2nd pic is probably your choke cable.

Thanks Spence the choke cable is attached to the choke lever on the pther side off carb. I fitted a new one which is when I noticed the kickdown on the throttle pedal

looks like it could be a cruise control actuator maybe?

Look near the propshaft for a hall sensor mounted on a bracket.

I was under the van to day and there is a sensor (or what looks like one)
So I will need to fined the switch for it.

There should be a control panel on the dash somewhere, also a control unit in the engine bay maybe.

follow the wires from the actuator to see where they go. There may also be some vacuum lines involved, mine has a tee piece in the brake servo feed pipe.

I traced the wires to day and found the switches, A pull on switche and a flip switche up or down. The control unit is under the dash.
