Water heater

another thing that won't start after the winter is the cascade water heater.

the water heater wont stay on. pump works and water comes out of the hot water tap, the gas works, everythings lights so there is gas(although I swear it's leaked over the winter, it was nearly full, now feels almost empty). but my heater and hob work and light, they don't seem low on gas. I turn on my 12v switch, turn on the water heater, it ticks for a moment, sounds like it lights, then give it a moment and the red no flame light comes on.

any ideas, can't be leaking, can't be blocked, it sounds like it lights so can't see why it won't stay lit, read something about anode rods not completely sure what they are as I've never taken a water heater apart. from what I understand it isn't those.

not even sure whether this is the right place to post, or to start new topic, but any help would be appreciated.

Tom

hi normal practise with casscade water heaters are to drain them completely for the winter. leaving water in can cause frost damage.

How would I go about doing this for next year, It was the first winter I had the thing, so don't know a loty of these things.

although, a leak in the tank or split from the frost I wouldn't have thought could prevent the thing from staying alight. I really don't know, I have my first weekend away for the year on friday and am getting used to the idea of no hot water, no big deal for where I'm going, or for how long, but really don't know that much about water heaters. I'm guessing just a tank with some kind of heating on it.

could you mean that a leak is putting out the flame and that the heater is completely screwed. How woulod i know, I'm gonna have to take the whole thing out and have a look probably, was hoping for some advise before I do. The thing is kind of old anyway and am not sure how long the camper will last anyway, so could go without.

Either way undoing rusty untouched bolts in my spare time is becoming second nature.

I'm actually gonna roll and brush a load of dark green paint on it this week, and grafitti 'The Heap' on the side this week and irreversibly send this thing on it's one way ticket to being nothing but scrap(just one good summer though).

On the face of the heater at the bottom left hand corner there is a drain plug, it is advised to remove the drain plug and open the taps to allow all the water to drain from the system ,you will have to have the water pump switched off.The water heater will have a safety devise so if there is no water the flame will go out, normally you should run the hot tap making sure water is coming out properly before switching the heater on they sometimes apear on ebay.
