Price Guide

A sample representing what shakes out from data from sales over the last year or so (gaps are due to insufficient data) -

Broad categories -

250 = short wheelbase 220, 230 and 250 (16, 18 and 22cwt) models
280 = long wheelbase 270 and 280 (2.8 tonne GVW single wheel rear axle) models
350 = long wheelbase 340 and 350 (3.5 tonne GVW twin wheel rear axle) models

Spares or repair: what it says on the tin.

Fair: just about street legal and unlikely to get through the next MoT test, or even stagger as far as the next MoT test, without major repair.

Average: what can be expected by way of wear and tear (running gear, corrosion, body condition) in a 30-odd year old van that hasn't been neglected, abused or substantially restored.

Good: near enough mint condition or substantially restored. (Does not mean nicely finished; it's what's under the paint that matters ...)

More data over a longer period is needed for a better overall picture, e.g. separate categories for 250 model motor homes with alloy or GRP bodies, addition of Poor in between Spares or repair and Fair, so that's in hand in terms of sales.

Meanwhile what could be collected from Register data would help.

March 2012

Average sales prices to 31 March.

Trends to 31 March.

'All models' includes motor homes (coachbuilt alloy body, coachbuilt GRP body, high top, pop top), panel vans, ice cream vans, chassis models (flatbed, dropside, tipper, beaver tail etc.), custom vans, passenger and ambulance models.

Can't do much more with the numbers at this stage simply because there isn't enough data.

EDIT

But on second thoughts it's enough for a datum, a starting point for assessing changes over time at least.

June 2012

Average sales prices to 30 June.

Most significant change: 17% increase over March prices for 250 models in Spares or repair and Fair categories.

(Insufficient data for similar comparisons for other models to be statistically sound.)

Interesting stuff.

I tend to watch CF prices on Car&Classic and ebay almost daily, and there seems to have been a distinct rise in prices since I first took an interest two and a bit years ago.

Classified ads prices are on the up but they're not included in price guides because it's sales prices that are relevant; there's a lot of difference between wishful thinking and harsh reality of what the market will bear ...

Prices vary over the year with the peak around Easter so prices could drop towards the end of the season and into the winter. Or could go the other way ...

Once there's enough data year on year comparisons should better illustrate trends.
