Why Doesn't my Windscreen Fit Properly?

Thought I'd have a clean up and remove the previous owner's attempt at repairing/sealing the front windscreen. After removing filler and a couple of plates that were tacked on, this is what I found, oh deep joy:

The last picture shows quite a substantial gap that's got me wondering whether I have the right screen or not.

Looking at that last pic id say it was the metal that's distorted and not the windscreen that's wrong.............

The gap just closes up just at the same height as where the frame has come away from the rubber...........

This will be a hard repair to correct but it is posable........

Thank you Gethin for your reply. What I should do tomorrow is make a cardboard template from my other window surround and that will tell me whether the framework has been distorted. I've been dreading this job. I may just fill it in using filler and fibreglass.

Hi Rea,I agree with Gethin,it looks like the screen is the corect one.You will have to take the screen out for this repair, but it is fixable.Idid this repair in about 1982,on my first cf.So dont dispair its a cf so all can be fixed.Cheers+Beers.Jim

Hello Jim,
Thanks for your reply. I'm just going to bodge it up at the moment so I can get some summer out of it and reassess the situation at the end of the season. It's not life threatening, just annoying.

Hi Rae looking at the pictures the inner frame with the lip for the rubber has rotted away from the outer frame giving you the appearerence that its the wrong screen.

It wouldn't surprise me if the previous repair had caused the distortion.

First of all, thank you all for your feedback, it is appreciated.
Back to the job in hand. Further investigation shows that underneath the patch the remaining section of window frame has been replaced (badly). If you look at the picture below you can just see the join.

Cut a section out of a frame and as you can see it fits a lot nicer, even though it is only sitting on top of the rubber. It gives you an idea how far the other one was out.

Decided, as I wanted to keep the van on the road at least for the summer, I went for the easy option, just filled it in with filler. I know it won't last, it's not meant to, it just keeps me on the road; can't be any worse than it was before.

Ready for painting.
