Petrol Tank

Weird one this.

When putting petrol in, it takes ages to find a position
where the petrol will flow into the tank.
If i put it in as per norm, it puts 20p worth in then
clunks off.
45 degree and the same, sometimes i have to put the nozzle in
upside down to make it flow in properly.

Any help???

Check the tank vent hose.

On the Autosleeper it should run from the top of the tank then around the welded rim of the tank to a free end open to atmosphere.

The tank inlet doesn't help with being almost horizontal but if the vent is blocked then it could explain the rapid kick-back.

Don't have a solution - but can tell you ours is exactly the same! Fortunately we run mostly on lpg, but if we do have to fill up on petrol we take a packed lunch with us!! We haven't yet found a position where the flow is 'normal', though some are better than others. I also suspect pumps these days flow considerably faster than they did in the past.

Venting.

Hi to all,

I have had the same problem in a number of vans, I cured it by fitting a lenght of metal fuel line to the upper side of the filler neck.
This metal tube must go all the way down into the tank but stay above the surface of the fuel in the tank even when the tank is full.
So that as the fuel goes in to the tank the air it is displacing can escape.
I hope this works for you as it did the trick on several of my vans.

Doug.

That's all going to change this year Sandy, I know where you live so it's only a matter of time, as and when it suits.

I quickly learned to take as much time as i could to fill up, i have not only had the pump clunk to a stop after only a few seconds i have also had the petrol shoot back out of the tank and all over my feet.
