Replacing skylight - any tips

I need to replace the skylight on a coachbuilt 1972 CF. Not having attempted anything like this before I would appreciate any advice on how to go about this, particularly how to seal the new unit into the roof so that it's nice and water tight?

There is also the risk that if I stand on the roof it might giveway, or at best warp - any tips on how to avoide this?

Thanks in advance

I would imagine that the majority are fitted from the inside, mine certainly is.What I did was take the old one out & stand on a step ladder poking my head out through the gap.Clean the old gunk off, apply new sikkaflex then position & pull tight.

Mine were fixed from the outside but the flyscreens and lining are fixed from inside. I used a ladder to get on the roof then another ladder on carpet to spread the load. I refixed and replaced the rooflights using stainless steel screws and Hodgsons Seamseal CV which is non-setting and a lot cheaper than Sikaflex but doesn't have the adhesive qualities. I got this from http://www.olearymotorhomes.co.uk they also do their own PU sealant which is about half the price of Sikaflex.

Thanks guys, will be a few weeks before I attempt this so time to ponder my options. It does look like mine are secured from above.

Most skylights are held on by srews on top they have an inner sleave usually held in by four screws and the fly screen sits inside, I bought a new one for mycoachbuilt but havent fitted it yet as someone has put a double row of screws in it making more work. The best for sealing is the the sealer on a roll that you get from caravan shops it dosent go hard and is flexable.
