Clutch problem

Newby needs help.
I have recently bought Bedford CF1 Land cruiser, busy rennovating it. I have noticed clutch is really heavy to depress. I have removed gear box, greased shaft and thrust bearing and chedked the cable, all seems fine. Clutch is still the same. Can anyone please help with this or shed light on what may be the problem.

Cheers
Joe

Clutch problem.

Hi Joe,

Check the clutch pedal cross shaft the pedal maybe seized or partly seized to it, and make sure that there are no kinks or tight bends in the clutch cable on its way from the pedal down to the release arm at the belhousing.
Failing that remove the clutch cable and free it off with WD40, use the same stuff on the pedal cross shaft.

Doug.

Also check position of clutch adjustment ball nut at the clutch fork if it's the 2279cc engine (usually the case with Land Cruisers).

If the ball nut is near the clevis end of the threaded push rod then the clutch itself or flywheel wear, or both, may be the problem: pressure plate operation can become very heavy once the diaphragm spring 'cones' outwards from flat when clutch released.

Usually can confirm this before removing gearbox by installing a new clutch cable if the original one doesn't respond to a coat of looking at. If the pedal action still is heavy with a new cable then the clutch needs looking at.
