Gearbox Hello,I was wondering If I could pick your brains once again. I have a CF2 Ambulance with a 3.3 straight 6 holden/GM engine. It has the three speed Automatic trimatic gearbox. Its all working fine except that its e, expensive in fuel. I was told that changing engines would not make a great deal of difference, but that a manual/or more modern auto gearbox would. Is there a gearbox that would fit this engine and the salisbury axle? They seem to be common in Australia but I cant discover which UK donor vehicle I should be looking for. I'm ok to swap a gearbox but I'm a bit scared of mucking about with its innards. I really like the engine (cruises at 50, goes up hills, never overheats)so would try to avoid swapping both engine and gearbox. The Vauxhall/GM vehicles that use the VICTOR cresta etc seem to be very thin on the ground. Any Ideas Jim Hallett ---------------------- | Sat 01 Sep 2012 @ 10:56 |

Engine and gearbox. Hi millboy,I think in your case I would be changeing both engine and gearbox, that way you can use Bedford four cylinder and four speed box or Ford with a five speed box. Because you not only gain some miles per gallon you also shed a fair bit of weight. Doug. ---------------------- | Sat 01 Sep 2012 @ 14:20 |

Gearbox Thanks for that. My CF2 has a long wheel base ambulance body used by London Ambulance service, a lot of wind resistance. Would a smaller engine cope with all that body!I know I cant have speed and economy, but thought another gear or two would give me a little more economy. Ta Jim Hallett | Sat 01 Sep 2012 @ 17:03 |

A past member had the same set up and similar vehicle,i`ve just contacted him and asked about the fuel consumption as he travelled around in his a lot,so he reckoned around town,7-9mpg(ouch!!),at 50mph on a long run he reckoned 23-25mpg(pretty good)fully loaded, water, fuel, food etc,but mpg increased slightly when he scoffed the grub, big lad so probably true, ---------------------- | Sat 01 Sep 2012 @ 18:33 |

Thanks Alex Mac Do you mean the lad had the same set Up I have at the moment (big ambulance body, 3.3 liter holden and 3 speed auto). If you did then I would be very happy with 25mph. | Sat 01 Sep 2012 @ 19:10 |

25MPG. Hi millboy,I think you will have to drive bare foot to get that kind the mileage, but if I hear of a Rekord gearbox I will let you know. Doug. ---------------------- | Sun 02 Sep 2012 @ 11:00 |
