Bedford Therapy.

Hi to all,

Since there isn't a lot going on to the site just now I thought I would fill the a bit of space with something I wrote when I first brought home my old Bedford.

Bought for its therapeutic value to a mechanic retired,
a man to old and useless to ever be re-hired.
Much to the amusement of all who passed and viewed,
but changed very slowly as parts were renewed.
The engine spluttered into life that shook the floor,
in spite of the coolant and oil drips galore.
A radiator found that cured many leaks,
and gaskets that reduced the oil that seeps.
A rebuilt gearbox plus a clutch and race,
got the wheels turning at a pace.
Then with propshaft joints and mounts renewed,
passers-by with more interest viewed.
So now with the power to move and drive,
a braking system from a mess must be derived.
And with pipes and shoes and cylinders done,
came the time to see how fast she would run.

At thirty five she ran out of breath and power,
we limped back home within the hour.
Resetting gaps and checking clearance,
no fault to be found or made an appearance.
Just a knocking exhaust that drove us mad,
but then what we found inside was bad.
So with the choked exhaust replaced and sealed,
once more out of the gate she was bravely wheeled.
Seventy I thought was quite enough to make,
as both myself and the old girl began to shake.
For those who had earlier passed and mocked,
seeing her on the move where quite shocked.
And now having passed another MOT test,
I think I will have a well earned rest.

Doug.

Hi Doug,

That's a great poem and so true.

I dare say many people on here have done much the same to their Beddy's after purchasing them, and that's all part of the fun of running a classic vehicle.

Excellent mate!! Doesn't seem to matter what you run people will always mock some way or another! Doesn't bother me though! Were the ones who are enjoying ourselves!
