starting problem george 1981 cf 280

help,
today turned ignition key and nothing!!! battery ok 12.6v, lights,blower fan,wipers all ok, engine does not turn over.12v at ign barrel, battery earth ok tried knocking starter motor no go.
any help would be appreciated

Hi geoff,
When you say no noise from starter do you mean it is not turning or the sound is normal?
Apart from that my first checks would be for the effects of dampness at the distributor leads and plugs, WD40 is a must if you are going to run a Bedford.
Check battery earth strap and engine earth strap, make sure your dashboard lights are coming on when you turn the key, or do they go out when you load the key to start, hair dryer on the fuse box can sort this out.
