1983 CF250 cuts out when throttle opened

Hi,
We have a 1983 CF250 2.3 slant with a webber ICT34 carb. She has had many problems this year which have all been resolved but now she won't run.
Here's what happens: She starts up after a little persuasion and will tick over, as soon as touch the throttle the engine cuts out.

In the last 6 months I've had new cam belt + water pump, new coil, new HT leads, new points + rota arm + distributor cap. Compression check is ok. I have serviced the carb with new idle jet, air screw, fuel filter, gaskets etc which improved it a little as she now ticks over where she wouldn't before. The fuel filter on the pump has been cleaned and all the fuel lines checked they all seem ok. The fuel cut off solenoid seems to be working ok. All the vacuum pipes are attached and doesn't seem to have any air leaks on the carb.

My guess is that she is flooding when add throttle but can't work out why?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Alex

Cuts out.

hi alexson,

After all the work and parts replaced I would remove the rubber tubes and check for splits along there sides, both the one from carb to distributor and the one from manifold to air cleaner flap casing.
The other air leak area to check is the joint gaskets between manifold and cylinder head, then there is the chance that you have set the mixture to lean and when you open the butterfly the volume of air does not carry enough petrol and the engine cuts out.

Doug.

What happens if you try the choke? Not flooding, gotta be lean mix, or air getting in.Tried the brake servo etc?

Thanks for your replies, it doesn't seem like the accelorator jet is blocked as fuel coming through fine when engine off and float cover taken off. I will try to adjust the float level as this is something I have fidled with when servicing. I will also double check the mixture but pretty sure that is ok. I've checked the pipes and no splits. Cuts out when choke is out.

Any further advice would be appreciated. Thing is we are putting up for sale any way as we are heading off to India in April for a few months. Would just be better if it was running/I knew what was wrong so could inform any potential buyers.

Thanks again

Alex
