low back end Hi everyone ...its the man with a million questions,I could do with lifting the rear end of my c250 autosleeper maybe 6-8 inches it looks really low in fact the springs are almost flat even with the van unladen. I was considering having the springs re tempered and another leaf fitted but worked out too expensive and for brand new leaf springs the blacksmiths where theyre made wanted £350-£400. I dont want to put air suspension on (too dear) so i was wondering about fitting coil springs on top of the leaf springs at the axle. is this a cheap and effective way?...is it a big job?what springs would i fit and how would they be held in place? does anyone of pictures or knowledge of this type work? All advice welcome. ---------------------- | Thu 14 Mar 2013 @ 22:33 |

Coil spings. Hi moomoo,I had the same problem a few years ago so I have done this coil spring lifting job on top of the the cart spring ubolt plates and it has done the job a treat. I made up a top and bottom mounting plate out of 3/8 steel plate the top mount is welded to the chassis leg, the bottom plate is bolted under the ubolt nuts with a centre bolt though top and bottom mounts which allows the fitting of a rubber bush top and bottom. After a search through coil spring books I found a pig tailed spring that did the job, it was an Vauxhall Asra rear spring. And it took a lot of the wollowing out of the back end, mine is a high top body so that was a great bonus to the handleing. Doug. ---------------------- | Fri 15 Mar 2013 @ 21:29 |

Hi Doug Do yo have any images of the work that i might be able to look at? Im thinking of buying an airspring kit but it seems a lot of expense (£350). My leaf springs are actually frowning rather than smiling and really do need sorting one way or another. ---------------------- | Sat 16 Mar 2013 @ 18:54 |

Low back end Hi Moomoo,I have a1974 pop top. When I got the van the rear springs were frowning like yours.I hapend across a Bedy box camper that was being scraped. This has 2 rear leaf springs .As they were used I tried them on my van ,the van now stands and hadeles great. This only cost £20.It's just another thought for you.Cheers+Beers Jim.---------------------- | Sat 16 Mar 2013 @ 20:22 |

Hi again I have 4 leafs and as i said the problem I have is that the springs are frowning rather than smiling ... so how would i get them back to something like their original shape?...e.g..would it be possible to jack between the axle and the chassis to try to reshape them or am i talking nonsense? I think it'll be really hard to get hold of springs in good condition for my type of van...but no doubt there'll be a brand new set somewhere in the world sat in someones garage covered in dust and cobwebs...lol ... Anyway I'll post an image of how bad they are if i can in my next post. ---------------------- | Sat 16 Mar 2013 @ 22:28 |

Thanks Gethin I like the look of the spring assisters and there doesn't look too much work to fit them. Im gonna make enquiries tomorrow. ---------------------- | Sun 17 Mar 2013 @ 23:55 |
