New-ish Owners

Hello,

After nearly a year searching we have now had our van for a few months. It felt like cheating posting here while all it had done was sit on the drive, so after a couple of camping trips it feels suitably real now.

We have a 1974 Autosleeper, hand painted dark blue.

The interior is in pretty good shape, seems original and everything is fully functional (except the table which at some point has frustratingly parted way with its legs). This was taken with it full of stuff while we were away camping.

You can see the original, non hand painted, colour in there too. Would be interested to know what colour it is if anyone has any ideas.

The body work is in really good shape, some rust round the wheel arches, bit at the front of the bonnet and the gutters have suffered, but nothing we have noticed that seems all that serious.

We have had two great trips away in it so far, never more than 50 miles from our home port in West London, but we have managed to cover nearly 300 miles since we bought it.

Hoping to make it to meet up with some other CF's at some point, so far we have been the novelty of the campsite.

This has probably been long enough for an introduction now.
Cheerio
Kev and Sara

Glad to see you're enjoying yourselves. Just goes to show you don't have to spend £10-20,000 to have a good time

Just think, from west London you can head west and enjoy the excitement of a night at the Isle of Grain Come to think of it, there's a nice car park at the end of Grain with a 'nice' view over the water. Actually not a bad place to spent the night. I've spent an hour or two after working at Medway power station in the past walking the river bank on a summer day. It's quite nice.

It could be worse. This week I'm stuck in Southampton. It almost makes Grain look nice

welcome guys. nice looking van there. similar to our Trailblazer, and we love her, despite the odd mechanical hiccup. carry a BIG tool kit and the old beddy will always get you home.

Welcome on board.
If you take a look at my post here http://www.bedford-cf.co.uk/mboard/showthread.php?id=10466&postid=1
Mine was also partly hand painted. The paint was originally Vauxhall Stratos blue (from memory) but age has changed the tint of this so I got a local auto paint company to come up with the nearest match. Triumph powder blue with a little darkening tint was a perfect match. They gave me the original correct colour first and because it wasn't a good enough match I got three cans for free. I used these as a base coat.

Went on very easily and wasn't too expensive for rattle cans. I think they were about £7 for 500ml and I used about four for the change you see in the pictures (plus base coat).

See some of the other posts for using Rust-oleum thinned down on a roller for a cheap but effective finish.

Thanks for all the replies, good to know that there are plenty of other people running these vans. The reactions we have got from people on our very limited journeys has been astonishing and made me wonder just how rare it is to see a CF.

I think the photos flatter the van slightly, the paint is pretty dull and it looks like someone has tried to polish bits of it with a crushed can, paint is a job that is a little down the to do list though.

Hi mate welcome to the club when we are driving through London its funny to see the reactions of some people, cars beeping (although not sure if its because we are driving to slow )thumbs up and kids waving out of back window :) one thing I will say is keep on top of the rot other than that
