Bedford Bedouin - Full Restoration Hello Everyone,Just wanted to let you in on the plans for our 1972 Bedford Bedouin Camper. We've had the van for about 5 years, during which time Paul and his late father, Phil, did extensive work on the brakes, and engine as well as lots of other work to enable her to keep running. We realised, earlier this year that, as we have nowhere under cover to work on her, and because so much needs to be done, that we would have to find someone to undertake the work for us. After seeing a restored Bedford Debonair on Ebay, I contacted the seller and he agreed to do the work for us. so we took our van up to Chorley at the end of October. The point of all this is that I thought you may wish to follow the progress and watch the rebuild, so here are the details for anyone who would like to see whate is involved. The work is being carried out by Classic Vehicle Restorations Ltd. by Jeff Ball - he has a Facebook page under this name and has already posted some pics of what has been done, up to now. The Album on the page is Pat and Paul's Bedford Bedouin. The van looks pretty grim at the moment. Hope you enjoy following the progress. Pat Laughton ---------------------- |

It would be interesting to know the estimated (or quoted) cost of the restoration.Looks like a rather large job. Oh by the way,can I have it when it's done?

Rough estimate is about £5,000 which we are paying in installments as the work is completed. If you've been on the site you will see that Jeff has been doing restorations for about 30 years and the standard of his work is excellent. Work will hopefully be completed for end of March 2015 - in time for the start of our Battle season. ---------------------- |

We were using the van up until taking her in at the end of October. Have been as far afield as Dorset, Scotland & Ceredigan, West Wales. But yes really looking forward to a revamped Bedouin. The inside will be rebuilt by a cabinet maker who Jeff uses regularly. The external welding is nearly finished and the wings and doors have been replaced with some from the 'stash' we have been building up. Jeff will be picking up the wood to rebuild the frame next week. ---------------------- |

Your van is going to look great. The guy is doing some very nice work. Having looked at mine and thought about what work is involved in restoring a motorhome, it's a big task. I'm planning on tidying my cab up next winter after I get some use out of it. Keep the updates coming. Frank |

8 mm seems pretty thin ? I know things are more efficient nowadays but can you get any really worthwhile insulation value at 8 mm ? |

We've got similar stuff in our loft, under the tiles and it works very well. Its a sort of bubble wrap sandwiched between 2 layers of foil, plus its light and you don't get the irritation from fibres like like you do from fibre glass. You could use 2 layers if you really want to, or double thickness is available. ---------------------- |

Van is now filled and prepped ready for primer. Jeff used 1 whole sheet of fibre glass and 14kg filler on all the seams etc, so no more water leaks.

Wow. Your Bedouin is looking great. The guy is doing some fine work. Let us know how many hours he and the carpenter have put into it, so people get an idea of how much of a task a restoration like this is. Frank |
