overheating issue HII have a Bedford CF 1 1977 2.3 petrol If I leave the van running, after about 10 mins the engine cuts out, My temp gauge isn't working at the moment but I think the engine is overheating Is this normal if the van is just left idling on the driveway Any thoughts appreciated ---------------------- | Thu 09 Apr 2015 @ 14:07 |

it could be that the excess heat causes the fuel to evaporate and this is whats causing your engine to cut out. dose the engine restart straight away or do you need to let it cool down then crank it over for ages?? | Thu 09 Apr 2015 @ 18:45 |

Ten minutes. Hi,If it is only taking ten minutes to over heat while ticking over the is very worrying, sounds more like fuel starvation to me. doujoy ---------------------- | Fri 10 Apr 2015 @ 09:18 |

sounds like the thermostat is not opening or there is blockage in the water ways. in a way your lucky that the engine cuts out rather than boil and blow a gasket. fist step in my opinion is to get a infra red temperature unit and find out what's hot and what cold.. when you know this you can then rectify the problem with out having to change things unnecessary | Fri 10 Apr 2015 @ 21:37 |

I had a similar issue with an old ford and that turned out to be the ignition coil failing once it had warmed up a bit. leave it for an hour and the engine would start straight away and then cut out again. When you have cut out pull off a plug lead and connect to a spare plug which you have earthed. I use a jump start lead for earthing the plug. ---------------------- | Sat 11 Apr 2015 @ 11:47 |
