electric power steering

Hello
Has anybody fitted an EPS steering column into their Bedford. I am considering using a Corsa B set up with one of the electronic regulators you can buy for control of the assist rate.

Power steering.

Hi Beigebengy.

Go to frequently asked questions, but I do know one guy who has had power steering fitted to his Bedford CF but is now talking about reverting back to the old rack system.
His power steering system was off of a Corsa.

I have fitted electric power steering to a CF. It works very well and only took a day. You can see it on my website talbot-express-power-steering-conversions.co.uk

I cant imagine why you would need power steering, the steering on my Bedford is as light as a feather, lighter than my 5 series BMW (1999) that DOES have power steering. The light steering is one of the lovely thinks about the van.

The wonders of grease and oil.

Hi to all,

Like Jim I found light grease a means to keeping the steering nice and light by fitting a grease nipple at each end of the steering rack, grease does not drip out should there be a split anywhere but does a good lub job.

Another thought, have you got the original steering wheel fitted still or have you / has it got a smaller after market wheel fitted?? as that can make a difference to the steering...not sure if its enough to warrant power steering, I have a CF2 and the steering is fantastic, easy to turn, good turning circle, better than my Freelander...lol

Hello. Thankyou for the replies. The reasons I am looking at this are that my wife does not like to drive Bengy due to the shallow angle of the existing wheel due to a wrist joint problem so I need to change the angle. The Corsa column I have has some angle adjustment and the eps would also mean a smaller wheel could be used which would also give more room/clearance when the drivers seat is laid down flat for sleeing. Using the corsa column will I think involve a dash and floor remodel to fit. This is well down the list and as every job on Bengy seems to lead to at least 2 others some way off. eg. I fixed the door/entry light which has led to replacing the cab roof with a steel frame as once I removed the headlining I found rust and a free floating roof. Definitely not factory. This then led to fibreglassing the roof onto the body inside all round which meant removing the interior of the van. The light had a bad joint in the supply wire above the drivers door.Regards Andy
