Tackling the list.

Hi to all,

Today was a gentle start to the winter list by getting some smaller items checked and corrected, over the next four months I intend to deal with five larger upgrades.
The biggest change being the gearbox with overdrive unit but just as important an upgraded alternator, a 55amp should make a difference to topping up the batteries more effectively.
The more experimental change will be to see if I can make enough space to fit my ready made up starter dog bottom pulley and a means to tilt the radiator by two inches to allow a starting handle to be passed through to engage with it, should be interesting and might even work!

Inside job.

Hi to all,

As the weather is in control of what I can get done and when I can do it I have a number of inside jobs to be going on with, like the engine which should at sometime in the future find its way into Jason's land-cruiser.
Still a lot of bits to find before it could be any use as a running engine but it is getting there slowly, the Bedford its self is still in Ireland but should be over here shortly so I can get a look at what we have to work with.
I would like to see some progress on this project before Christmas, slow moving projects in my experience tend to stall and never get finished.

Parts to be found.

Hi bluebedouin,

I have the main engine block crank-shaft and pistons sump pan and fly-wheel, cylinder head cam-shaft and cam-box water pump and exhaust manifold, distributor and cap and rotor.
The largest parts I am missing is the inlet manifold and carb, an oil switch and a temp sender, so as you can see we are well on the way to having a useable engine for his Bedford.

Being scraped.

Hi to all,

I was lucky enough to be offered this engine which was running before it was taken out of the motor but the guy was scraping it unless some one would take it away from his house.
So my son and I collected it and stripped it down and checked it over then replaced gaskets and seals on the rebuild and found it to be in quite good shape.
But there was some bits missing, some I have been able to supply and some I am still looking for.

Missing bits,

Hi to all,

Today I have made an alternator bracket for that spare engine and found a suitable alternator that will do the job and so two more missing bits are in place.
Might have found an inlet manifold or at least I now know where one is laying not in use, so that's just a maybe!

Cracks in the alloy.

Hi to all,

I thought I had found an alternator for the spare engine but it turns out to have a crack across the rear bracket just below the bolt hole, so tomorrow I will set about trying to repair the damaged.
Might be able to drill and pin across the facture and still have a serviceable alternator, time will tell.

Damaged alternator.

Hi to all,

Due heavy snow all outside work today had to be put off and if it now freezes tonight there will be lots of driving fun and the panel shops will be busy, but having a few inside jobs waiting like the fractured alternator bracket I did not weary.
I have managed to drill and pin the bracket back into place by using liquid metal to hold the bit together and once that had set drilled to small holes down into the outer casing of the alternator and tapping in two steel pins.
So far so good let's hope it stays in one piece!

Inlet manifold.

Hi to all,

I might have found an inlet manifold for Jason's 2.3 petrol in-complete engine its not in very good shape but it is something to work with, a lot of open holes where connections used to be, like the by-pass pipe and the vacuum pipe and the heater hose.
So a lot of checking and re-surfacing of the head flanges before it will be passed as useable and worth fitting, but if there are on fractures in the alloy it might be ok.

Jason's Engine.

Hi to all,

Still working on getting the parts needed to make up a complete engine for Jason's Land-cruiser, as you all know the cost soon mounts up and there is still about seven parts to be found, some of which I think he will have to buy new.
Having seen some picture's of the campervan it is missing a lot more than just an engine, I am living in hope that there are a few bits laying around in the back of the van but until he gets it shipped over here it is hard to tell.
At the moment the engine costs are sitting around the £500.00 mark, which all in all I think is a lot cheaper than buying off e-bay or Adrian Baillie, so let's hope he thinks so as well.

Hello Doug
There is a 25th Nov posted ad in the For sale adverts section of this website might be worth a try. Says lots of cf and cf2 parts.

Bracket missing.

Hi to all,

One of the parts that is missing from this engine is the throttle cable support bracket which is held on with the same small 7/16 studs along with the ign. coil and allows for the cable to be adjusted.
So that was the small job for today to make up a bracket for the throttle cable support which is now done and only waits to be painted, it is these small things that get overlooked until you are ready to hook on the cable.
I can't wait to have a look over this Land-cruiser when it arrives if for on other reason but to see what if any useful bits might be rolling around in the back that might make the job a bit easier.

A new source of parts.

Hi to all,

Just heard from Jason and he has found a breaker Bedford over in Ayrshire direction and the whole campervan is full of bits that we need, so this might be the answer to all his problems.
But the campervan he wants to put back on the road is still in Ireland and the price of getting it over here has just gone up, once they know their service is indispensable opportunity knocks to fatten up the wallet.

Jasons list.

Hi to all,

I had a phone call from Jason to say he has bought another Bedford CF 1.8 slant from a guy who said he has had enough of trying to repair it, but it is in bits.
But he thinks it will have everything he needs to put his Land-cruiser back on the road.
So far I have not seen any of these Bedford's so it should interesting!

Engine parts.

Hi to all,

Tomorrow I should get an engine delivered from Jason's latest purchase in the hope that it will have all the bits I am short of to complete the engine for his Land-cruiser, which is still bobbing around somewhere in the Irish sea but hopefully heading for Scottish shore's.
