Toyota time.

Hi to all,

Having a look at a very sick Toyota Rav4 tomorrow sounds like fuel or fuel pump problems, quite common on that Toyota diesel engine.

Fuel injection pump shut down.

Hi to all,

Had a look at Toyota Ladies Rav4 this morning and so far I think it is an old weakness in the Toyota fuel injection system that is the problem, SCV's or suction control valves in the fuel high pressure pump.
I have replaced these valves on this Rav4 already about eighteen months ago for the same problem, today I have added a bottle of diesel system cleaner and it has improved the running so I will let it work through the system for the net twenty four hours.
If this does not clear the problem then these SCV's will have to be replaced again, but this would be a cost of £161.00 for the valves.

Cleaner.

Hi to all,

So far the diesel cleaner fluid seems to be improving the fuel valves performance and if that does the job all well and good because the new SCV's are £161.00, so I weight to hear if we are going to be lucky or not!

SCV's

Hi to all,

I am now waiting for two colour coded suction control valves to arrive for that Toyota Rav4 because the cleaning fluid has helped but not totally cured the fuel starvation problem, so that is my next job getting them swopped over it is quite a fiddle of a job with very little space and the use of a magnet when removing and refitting the retaining screws and a mirror to see where the holes are.

More Toyota time.

Hi to all,

Today it was a very poorly Toyota Yaris running on two cylinders instead of three, so my first port of call was the spark plugs and number three was not firing but when a new set was fitted still on life in number three so time to test the coil of that cylinder which gave a very high resistance reading.
A sure sign that it was the problem and once it was replaced we were back to full power, the plugs I found out had not been changed was 50,000 miles and they looked like they were all on there last legs so a new set was a good investment!
A quick look at the air filter told me it had been in there for about the same amount of time so a new one was fitted and the oil and coolant was topped up,
I asked about the last service and was told they could not afford to have it serviced!!

Toyota Rav4.

Hi to all,

Tomorrow the Toyota Rav4 arrives at last to have the SCV'S changed a very fiddly job with very little room even after removing a lot of bits out of the way it is still a mirror and magnet job.
A mirror to see where the screws are and the magnet to retrieve before they drop and disappear into the depths of the engine bay or chassis, as you will have gest I have done this job a few times!

Fuel line fault.

Hi to all,

The Toyota Rav4 has been checked out and the suction control valves have been replaced and has greatly improved the performance and power output, the next job on that motor will have to be the rear brakes for disc's and pads.
Maybe next week when they can do without the motor for another day, but I will order the parts tomorrow.

More Rav4 work.

Hi to all,

Brakes this time rear brake disc's and pads and a set of front brake pads, could be a weekend job if they can spare the motor so let's hope for a dry spell of weather!

Brakes done.

Hi to all,

That has got the brakes renewed with disc's and pads, rear sliding pistons were sized and the pads down to the metal the front ones still had a bit of lining left but not enough to last 500 miles.
Tomorrow I will strip and clean out the EGR valve which seems to be giving some problems and check the readings at a couple of pressure sensors in the fuel line.

Brakes and EGR valve.

Hi to all,

Brakes checked fluid topped up and no leaks, managed to free off the rear brake calipiers but it really needs new ones, a test drive went well so next was the EGR valve which I removed and cleaned and checked this morning and all was working as it should.
Checking levels low on coolant and took four pints of engine oil to reach level, tyres should be at two bar all below pressure at one and a half bar.
Found a air hose blanking plug missing from turbo control valve and replaced that so maybe it will run a bit better now.

Toyota time.

Hi to all,

I managed to get a price for the fuel pressure sensor in the common rail which might be what is causing the fuel hesitation problem, a princely £96.00.
I think they need to get it plugged into a diagnostic computer before they spend anymore money, just to make sure that is where the problem really is.

Toyota time again.

Hi to all,

It looks like the rav4 has another sensor fault this time it is the common-rail
pressure sensor, quite an expensive one at around £96.00 and a more involved strip down to get to where it lives round behind and above the high pressure diesel pump.
The part is ordered so just waiting on it to arrive!

Time for a trdae in.

Hi to all,

After getting the Toyota rav4 through another MOT and seeing the mileage had reached over 200,000 miles I recommended a trade in was due because it was now at an age and stage where a lot of money was going to have to be spent to keep it up to scratch.
I have since looked over a four wheel drive diesel Skoda for the Toyota Lady and she has got what I think is a good trade in deal, a years road tax two new tyres and two thousand for her Rav4 against a nine thousand pound Skoda with 48,000 miles on the clock.
