Gearboxes.

Hi to all,

Jim Evens (jimfixit) is sending me two gearboxes up from Cearnarfon for spares or repairs, what a nice man!
He was in need of a Bedford flywheel and had one going spare so I have send it on to him and he got it yesterday morning, works well this club!

Club members supplied.

Hi to all,

I have just been checking up today how many gearboxes have went out to club members and even two non club members, a total of eight with one still waiting to go out to an Edinburgh Bedford CF owner before this season starts.
So Jim's gearboxes will help keep up that supply line!

Good on ya Doug and Jim, there are members out there, myself included, for whom your box was a lifesaver.

Gearboxes.

Hi to all,

Jim's gearboxes arrived here at 2.30pm and they will give something to amuse myself with on the next wet workshop day when nothing can be done outside, so thank you jimfixit some spare parts will be salvaged checked and stored away ready for whoever needs them.

Strip and clean.

Hi to all,

Jim's gearboxes are striped and cleaned and checked for useful spare parts, quite a lot of good reusable parts in both boxes some left to soak over night because the box that was missing its input shaft had a bit of water inside it.
But a good mornings work will go a long way to keeping a Bedford or two on the road for a while longer.

Gearbox parts required.

Hi to all,

On the gearbox that I have striped down I have managed to free off the main-shaft gears and sincro's and check and clean the lay-shaft cluster, the input shaft is missing on this box but I have one to replace it.
The rear main-shaft bearing is in need of replacement, very noisy and worn and difficult to get but in the last box with this problem I machined out the tail-shaft casing and fitted a metric sized bearing, I hope to do the same thing with this one.
The complete box seems to have a problem with the gearstick fitting into the turret and mating up the selector fork, apart from that the side gearing and bearings seem to be in good shape, probably because the box has had oil in it all the time it has been stored.

One done and ready for service.

Hi to all,

Of the two gearboxes sent up from north Wales by Jim Evens one is already repaired and ready for use once it has had a coat of black paint, the second gearbox will be rebuilt now that all the missing parts have been replaced.
With the weather turning wet as well as cold they are good inside jobs to have waiting on the bench.

Spare parts.

Hi to all,

Jim's incomplete gearbox has yielded up some very welcome spare parts, it has been the lower geared version of the Bedford CF gearbox and is missing the input shaft and fourth gear.
The input shafts and fourth gears I have in my spares cupboard are all of the high gear type of Bedford gearbox, but as wrecked gearboxes turn up I am sure one will turn up to complete that main shaft cluster.
It has a good lay-shaft which is great because they are getting very scarce, but good to add to the spares collection.

Checked and ready for use.

Hi to all,

The complete gearbox that Jim sent up from north Wales is now checked and back together and ready for use, a clean and a paint just to finish it off and it will get someone with a Bedford out of trouble for a good few thousand miles.
