A view of the roof space.

Hi to all,

In my recent attempts to find and stop the leaks in the roof of the old Bedford I had to cut away some of the roof lining and remove most the loft type insolation material which was soaking wet, the reason that the drips went on even when the sun was shining.
I was surprised to find the wood frame work of the campervan in such good solid condition, since completely recovering the entire roof on the outside and using a good sticky back insolation on the inside plus fitting two air vents one at each side of the roof space and leaving things to dry out I seem to have cured the problem.
I used some of the roof covering flash band to make a type of hood which covers the leading edge of the front sky-light and replaced the rubber seals around the inside of the sky-light giving it something to close down tight against.
Time and the weather will I have no doubt test all my efforts and hard work.

Good thread. When I renewed the lining of my original CF, I found that the insulation stored the damp and had to be completely changed. Dryness in the sandwich between outside metal and inside furnishing (ceiling material) is a must. Good luck with your work Doug. I have recently (Autumn) painted the roof of my van. The part was fibreglass and leaked like a sieve. When I tidied up after, I threw all the detritus away, (well the wife did it actually) and now I don`t know what the gook was that I painted on. Very successful, but expensive. If I can find the evidence, I`ll post it `cos it is very efficacious and may be of some help.

Insolation

Hi to all,

Insolation and ventilation plus the whole roof recovered with sticky backed flash band should make it warmer as well as drier, well that's what I hope but time will tell.
