air filter soak in oil ???

hi after changing a few pipes and things the with was looking through the manual and found that im supposed to dip or soak my air filter in engine oil ?????...is this still so or are the new filters used jsut as they are ??

Hi Guy.

On the old Landrovers the air filters where wire mesh and they used to be cleaned in petrol and then dipped in oil and the bottom inch of the filter casing was oil filled, I would think your filter would be a paper one and should be left dry.

and i thought it would have been a bit strange as ive never had to dip one in oil before lol BUT it was in the manual so its got to be good to have it on here i reckon ..
