Vacuum loss.

Hi enoch,

If the vacuum is lost does he still have servo brakes, with the engine switched off pump up the foot brake and hold it hard down then start the engine, if he has servo the hard brake pedal should travel down about an inch and a half.
If it stay solid he has no servo and might have a split or blocked servo hose or a leak at the servo seals, if the servo is working as it should then look for an inlet manifold leak at the base of the carb. or the joint onto the head.
Some water and fairy dish soap would make bubbles where the leak is, he should also check number two cylinder for any water that might be getting in off of the inlet manifold.

Think we have found it or we hope its the manifold. Loose nuts
he's taking the head off any way so will take him a while.
Thanks for your advice . Noch

Head and manifold.

Hi enoch,

Tell him not to forget the stud/nut inside the thermostat housing below the thermostat its self, and remember to fit the oil-feed seal to the cam-box when he fits the new head gasket and cylinder head.
Check for side movement on the valves once the valve springs are removed, any ware there will mean that the valves cannot seat and seal correctly.
