Vibrating.

Hi to all,

Apart from my gearstick problem I noticed a new vibration on this road test which coming off of the prop-shaft, a U/J joint has gone so that will have to be the next job on the list.

Joints.

Hi bluebedouin,

Well it will get my mind busy but the overdrive is working well the mileage works out at twenty five to the gallon, just have to replace that joint on the prop-shaft, should have done them all before I refitted it.

Vibration

Hi to all,

A closer check on my prop-shaft found no U/J faults but after some scrambling around under the van I came to thinking that the short section of the prop-shaft was laying at a steep angle going into the gearbox, so today I set about figuring how drop down the gearbox cross-member.
This should reduce that angle by about 3/4 of an inch to line it up with the centre-mount on the chassis which I think will help to solve the problem, a 13mm spacer between the cross-member and the chassis gives me 3/4 of an inch at the tail-shaft.
Hopefully this will cure the vibration which was only present as I drop down from 60mph time and a road test will prove how successful this has been!

Sunday morning fuel up.

Hi to all,

Nipped over to top up on fuel so that I am all ready for a get-away first week in November, strange noise from the exhaust and found a hole in the back box so that will have to be plugged and sealed up before I set-off anywhere.
But vibration off the prop-shaft seems to have stopped so lowering the tail-shaft seems to have made an improvement and the gear-stick stayed in place so we might be getting somewhere.

Exhausting stuff.

Hi to all,

Exhaust repaired and just to be prepared I am busy making up a short version of the system to come out of the side of van instead of going over the rear axle which seems to be the weakest part of the system and always the section that rots through first.
No matter how the hangers are arranged there is always too much movement on that rear section, moisture seems to lay in that rear section which in time rots through the metal from the inside.
But if you have the money the answer is stainless-steel for around £700.00.
