Dashboard instruments

I've recently bought a CF2 Autosleeper motorhome. Since buying it I've noticed that the speedo normally shows I'm doing 15-20 MPH slower than I'm actually doing and at over times can show 15-20 MPH faster. But my main concern is that the fuel guage has now stopped working - needle doesn't move from the bottom. Also the temp guage worked intermittent when I bought it. The previous owner (a mechanic) has wired a seperate temp guage up. I really need to get the fuel guage working. Is there anyone in the NW that knows there way around a CF2 - anywhere near Manchester / Preston areas? I have taken it to a local garage who told me I need an autoelectrician

Gauges.

Hi Bongodog.

Fuel gauge test is an easy one you can do yourself just slide underneath and take the wire off the tank unit and earth it to a clean piece of metal on the underside of the van, have someone in the cab to tell you if the gauge has gone all the way over the full, if it has the gauge is working and it is the tank unit inside the tank is either stuck of has another fault.
As far as the speedo is concerned it could be that the wrong drive gear in the gearbox has been fitted or the speedo head is faulty, but check the connections at the gearbox and the back of the speedo head to see that they are fitted and tight.
Also check the fuse box connections for damp and rust as a leak from the windscreen can corrode the fuse connections, might have to remove and clean the fuses.
