They must have made things better.

Hi to all,

Having recently worked on wheels that were fitted with tyres back in 1950 on split rims and the tyres had rotted away all the bolts came out without a problem and the tubes still had air in them and could still be blown up, proves that things from back then just lasted too long and were too well made!
British engineering when it was at its very best and proved by the recovered marsh sunken tractor which started the first day it was dragged out after being in the mud and water for five years.
Ransome Simm and Jeffries of Ipswich, built to last!

Hear hear Doug, accountants hadn't got involved to maximise profit by minimising production cost..

Grease points.

Hi Mike,

By saving on producing one small piece of metal which allowed you to pump grease into a track rod end they increased motoring costs by shortening the service life of that or any other part.
The Willis Jeep of the forties and fifties had twenty eight grease points but they lasted too long, that's is why there still so many around.
