Moffat rally.

Hi to all,

The paperwork has now came in for the Moffat roots group rally on the 22nd/23rd of June so I hope the old Bedford is going to be fit for that journey, had a few problems of late with a leaking inlet manifold which has now been replaced.
I got one short test run yesterday for about fifteen miles and had some adjustments to do after that to timing and carburation mixture so another test drive will be needed this week just to make sure it is running like it should be before setting off for Moffat 116 miles each way.

On the road again.

Hi to all,

Tomorrow with a bit of luck the old Bedford will make the journey down south to Moffat and the Roots Group Rally a round trip of 230 miles, all fuelled up this morning and the food stuff packed into the fridge this afternoon ready for a early start.

Moffat.

Hi to all,

The rally was the best and biggest I have ever seen it and the weather was hot and sunny, spent a bit of money on some bits and parts around the stalls and met up with a number of Bedford owners and old friends, so a good weekend.
Picked two Mini wheels and tyres for twenty pounds a piece, these are getting very hard to find these days, replacements for my trailer and found a guy who can get me a near new SU carb for my old Ransome tractor which should improve its running.

Identify that new noise.

Hi to all,

On the return journey from Moffat I could hear a new noise off my Bedford gearbox in fourth gear but not in overdrive, oil level was checked before the first rally at Kelso and checked again today and it was on the mark.
It would seem to be a main-shaft front bearing but on oil leaks so to try and get through the rest of the season I will drain the gearbox and put in a good quality additive and see how that goes, but it will have to come out to get that bearing replaced sometime.

Gear oil change.

Hi to all,

Picked up an additive compound this morning and drained off the gearbox oil, (glad I drilled and tapped in a drain plug in the gearbox bottom cover).
That made the whole job easier, added the additive to the new gear-oil and fired it into the box, might help to cure the problem but time will tell!

Gearbox noise.

Hi to all,

The additive compound seems to have done the trick after a twenty two mile test drive the noise has gone, the fresh gear-oil will have helped no doubt.
Since changing the inlet manifold the fuel and engine performance has greatly improved, the new plugs and CB points will have helped there I am sure.
