Superb garage help in Abergavenny! Unexpected holiday!

We were taking our Bedford CF2 Dalesman to Wales for the 2nd time last week on the way to Brecon, when it shot a brake shoe and damaged a cylinder. Luckily we had relay cover, and our vehicle being 3 tons and too heavy for the first relay man,Lanes from Llantheverine, just outside Abergavenny finally were sent for.Vernon was superb as he determinedly wrestled off the jammed drum and did not swear once even when rippng a knuckle! Not only that, because our site was in the ooposite direction, we were put up on their field for 2 nights-right next to Offa's Dyke and the Skirrid mountain-whilst the brake shoe had to eventually be specially relined in Cardiff. We were lent a car for the price of petrol, in which we explored Abergavenny, and the final bill was nowhere near expected. They are an old family firm and local people in both local hostelries (The Hogshead and The Hunter's Moon) affirmed their honesty, service and kindness. Not once did they give up on our plight- the shoes weren't standard-, and there is a love of old vehicles, Vernon having a couple of "projects" that he showed us in his workshop! Can we give a "thumbs-up" to all Bedford owners to use Lanes , whenever in the area? Better still, take your bikes and walking shoes, ask Janet (Vernon's sister) whether you can be put up on the field and get your servicing/MOT done whilst on holiday? Can't recommend them enough.

Thats a great tale and it's so encouraging to know that there are still people who are willing to go that extra bit to help others.
