heres mine

make a cuppa, sit down and ill fill ya with my tale of woe of the
mk5 transit known simply as "CHRISTINE"

bought the van from a member of another forum "ford transit.org"
van was meant to be a straight runner for me and my old man, but ill start it off slow lol

van looked like this when we bought it

TBH i wasnt looking to hard at it as it looked pretty straight, bought and sold loads of vans in the last 10 years and for some reason i didnt pay much head to this one as it was solid enough or so i thought.

had it less than 24hrs and i done this

then my old man decided plain was no longer enough
so he bought these for some artistic flair on the van

murder to fit even for me, used to do alot of sign fitting for my best mates sign and window tinting firm in glasgow, but this
seriously tested my patience doing them vinyls

next mod

off a fellow member of FTF`s van that he was sadly breaking

so that was it for all off 2 weeks, now when i got the van i knew the front wings were full of filler and that was typical of a mk5 transit,
but agreed with my pops we would deal with the wings at some point in the future like summer 2010, well no he decided to go buy some panels for the front wings and rear quarters, that still wasnt enuff he then against my wishes got a guy to "weld them on" short end is teh guy never cut the rot out teh rear and stick welded the new ones on
and to top it off he pot riveted them and then decided cover half the graphics at the rear quarter

so needless to say blazeing row with my old man over it, and the guy who done the welding nearly getting belted, and as i think rae will probably agree i aint exactly small so you would feel the belt

so me and my mate hired a mig and started the rebuild

mate grinding away

rear wings were knackerd, guy had stick welded them and botched them that much i had no choice but to leave them in place and grind edges down then puddle weld them in the rivet holes, then skim em no matter how hard i tryed i still ended up with them a good 2ml to high so sanding and blending hides a wonder lol

no pics of the repaint as it was a rattle can job
this was its 1st run out to a mates house for a meet were we ended up parked next to a nice looking CF

now here is the tale of woe for anybody buying a self built camper..... STRIP THE WIREING OUT JUST INCASE, no pics but some witness`s to the most shocking bit of botchery i have ever seen, think i showed rae and ann, stripped part of teh vans wireing out to check why it wasnt really working, lights were dim non responsive at points and teh 240v wasnt working at all, when i stripped the 240v out i found out what the problem was, phone wire yes the type that runs out the back of the phone into the wall with a car fuse was part of the ring from the fuse box to the 1st set of lights, mind blowing the stupidity of some people, now im gonna shut up cos no doubt your bored...........

no i hear you cry

...

ok

ill tell ya about my baby lol

i use to work for a haulage firm in glasgow contrcted to deliver
for wickes building supplies, just so happend we had transits for work

one thing i own up to is being anal about vehicles being dirty it does my head in, and this van being dirty didnt float my boat either cos i practicaly lived in it lol
i left for a few year after having this van from new , it bounced around different drivers till finaly a few year later i came back to work
for the firm in 08, van was in a horrid condition so 1st week i was back i was gutted so roll on the 1st weekend off

drivers seat

footwell

behind the seats

passenger seat

passenger door

under the passenger seat

one word.......disgusting:B

so to coin a glasgow phrase
i batterd in

2 days of cleaning and couple of 100 £ worth of my cleaning gear used
i had a shiney van and interior again

driver seat

no more shiney spot

the final cab shot

minted
and to prove how anal i am
engine bay

and to show how well i looked after my van
hows this for a 8 year old transit

dont look like that anymore as she has been parked up for over a year with a buggerd engine

[rip]

but i fully intend to buy it next year and put it back to work when its fixed and the old gaffer decides how much he wants or how little im gonna pay for it

sorry if this bored ya since it is a CF forum but gotta tell some one

The one good thing that came out of this story Jim was, you bought it before I could. I was in one of my Transit moods & basically, as you said, it seemed like a wonderful vehicle.

aye it was what i thought was a great van,
knew about some stuff but the other things i found out after
just really wound me up, but was my own fault shoulda looked harder at it and then made the right decision on it, spent that much on it now me
and my old man shoulda bought a mk6, but he was smitten with your van at slippys aswell, watch this space though a CF may still be on the books when he retires or a mk1 or mk2 transit.
the mk5 will be getting sold before we buy another van but will be some sort of classic

Thats looking good,Some people shouldnt be allowed near electrickery tho.
Bough an old sherpa years ago and altho everything worked i discovered that wires in back of wardrobe & behind fridge were just twisted together bare wires,no insulation & were just laying loose on floor of van.....These were MAINS wireing.
