Second hand Lil.

Hi to all,

I have picked up that secondhand engine and striped it down just to see what I have bought, and no great surprise the pistons are siezed.
It needs a set mains and bigend shells, I will hone the bores to see if they will clean up, but failing that it will be rebored, the guy said he had up graded the oil pump, that means he pressed the ball and spring in and stuck a split pin though it.
Cambox buckets are all free moving and the head looks good but I have yet to remove the valves and check the seats.
The crankshaft is in good nick no work needed there, so quietly pleased, just the walls of the bores that may need some work.
I have left the details with my local machine shop to see what they can find for me, but I have a name for a company thanks to this site
called Thorntons so I will give them an E-mail.
So we will see how it goes in the coming weeks for parts and gaskets.

Doug.

Hi all,

Well the second hand engine is all striped and cleaned and showing all its hiden secrets, pistons, three of them fitted the wrong way round on the conrods.
Pickup on the mainbearing journals, small end bearings seized, bigend shells worn to one side, (due to pistons being fit wrong way round).
Number two valves seized in guides, signs of water through oil ways, probibly because they never fitted the inlet manifold stud beneath the thermostat.
Bores showing rust, piston one and two seized in bore, removed with broken rings, rings seized into pistons lands.
Head seems good no cracks showing, valve seats pitted but no cracks and valves look to be in good nick, cambox buckets all free and unmarked, comshaft free turning and in good nick.
Sump had a lot of thick brown gungie mud in it as had all oilways, must have been quite exciting just before it stopped.

Old connections.

Hi to all,

Some of my old trade friends are coming good for spare parts just now, so far a starter motor a carb a fuel pump, (old glass bowl
type) and a water pump.
All for picking up that 2.3 slant engine, so I have left them a list of other bits that would interest me, see what happens.

Doug.
